From Serravalle to Vinacciano

This itinerary is divided into two parts and is divided into the two sides of Montalbano, divided by the provincial road from Lucca, a major road linking Pistoia to Valdinievole and Lucca. After a visit to the town of Serravalle, go down to the provincial road and cross near the pass to continue on via Monte. On the wall the signs of the CAI are clearly visible, where the directions for Case Fermi- Case Montirici-San Baronto are indicated.

Path

We proceed in constant ascent on asphalt for m. 750, then turn right into street Poggio Cala. Continue to the end of the paved road, keeping to the right on a small dirt road flanked by a double row of oaks. After the slight climb, at the crossroads with a cart road, keep to the left and always follow the white red signs of the CAI, to turn right uphill on a paved road near a hairpin bend. We thus meet the Casetta-Niconi farm, a beautiful stone complex situated in an excellent position. We continue straight on and shortly after, near a junction with CAI signs, turn left along the 21A path. After 900 meters, at the next junction, keep left downhill through a dense forest, where there are mainly pines, chestnuts and locust trees. After about 300 meters, at the next significant junction, continue to the right, leaving the CAI path 21A. Proceed downhill for another 500 meters, following a first section with a stone bottom, then on a slight slope, crossing two small ditches (generally without water during the summer season) until you come out of the woods and meet a large cart track. Turn left until the end of the dirt road and then right to reach the small village of Vinacciano in a short time. From the small square in front of the church it is possible to admire a wide panorama of the city and the lowland below.
